[rejected] new copy setting

Post by chickeneater »

I'm not real sure about all the ways that copy works, but here's an idea:

EM loads the (file to be copied aka copy.php) copy.php and copy's all the contents, and dir information from the install file. then it cd's to the dir and creates copy.php^2 and pastes the copy from copy.php

too complex for this action i think.

For the moment, you can copy files by using FTP or the copy function of PHP : seems to be more useful

That would work but why bother? The other settings should be enough.

If a copy.php would work then you could use some of the settings already there like server/copy. Maybe I'm not understanding you.

Code: Select all

<?php
// here goes initializing stuff //

$code = file_get_contents("./file.php");

$other_file = fopen("./../../../file.php", "w");

fwrite($other_file, $code);

// here goes ending stuff //
?>
Something along those lines.

a) I don't understand the purpose for this since everything related to copy is working
b) the method being described requires write access which only about 30% of people seem to have

Rather than explaining to me how it works or whatever, start by explaining why you want it. Until you answer why you want it then there is no sense in exploring how it works.

if copy doesn't work, it can be used as an alternative. most install files with huge copy lists don't work properly. it gets a critical error that it cant be moved. aka the attach mod. then if the option is checked, then it might provide another way of copying

that's what FTP is for. and also, if copy doesn't work likely this won't either.
