To Do: verify subSilver installed

Post by Nuttzy99 »

some folks have the files there but don't have the style installed. this will mess up the installer b/c the TPL files will not be found

I was just looking at my admin panel...

In Layout admin, under Add it lists all available templates. In Edit it lists all installed. Maybe you could get the information from the functions reading those lists?

Nuttzy, I'm confused. If they have the files there but don't have it installed won't the TPL files still be there? You said 'have the files there,' does this mean something else? A style being installed is databse work, not files... but maybe I'm just rambling.

morpheus2matrix >> as all mods are made to fit the subSilver style at first, I think this is an OK requirement. It really keeps off heaps of silly questions about non-standard templates not working with this-and-that mod.

LLKwerv >> EM gotta go from a list of templates from somewhere, trying to MOD them all as it does. Currently it uses the list of installed templates in the database I think.

I understand that. But the final goal of EM is to install a MOD on all the templates. Even if the MOD's are written for subSilver, if i remember fine,
Nuttzy have planned to try to allow EM to install the MOD's on different templates. So, in the future of EM, if i've got a board without subSilver, i could be able to install the MOD. But, with this verification, this will not be possible b/c EM won't find subSilver template.

All MODs are written for SS. Why do people uninstall it in the first place? I really don't understand why they do as it is not harmful to have it there. You can both set a default and force a default if you want. So why remove it?

From my point of view, if it is installing on SS then you know any problems that are creeping up have to do with a difference in the other template. I think the pro's outweigh the con's.

because the lack of place on the FTP server. Even if a template is not big, it take place, particulary images.

If i make a forum, then ii upload a new template. If i know that i don't have a lot of space on the FTP server, i could decide to delte one of the template : the one i dislike. If it's subSilver, how i could install EM ?

I happen to agree with morpheus - my favorite host only gives me 5 MB of webspace. If I'm to maintain anything there, I have to count every singe byte. Thus I deleted subSilver, using Aeolus instead. As things are slightly differently arranged in the template I did quite a lot of the modding by hand (and that went fine). Then I ran the modified script (Ptirhiiks Hierachy MOD), and it busted up the template pretty well. God bless backupfiles and all that. And no, I'm far from error free so it might just be me - I got this feeling I'm missing a <td> somewhere...
