the most common cause of this is a MOD that is not php5 compatible.
go to your admin folder in your ftp;
rename the php files for the last MOD you installed to something else and test.
then try the one you installed before that until your left panel returns.
whichever one makes it work, you will have to uninstall that MOD or find out how to make it work with php5.
