Remove "Delete all board cookies"

Post by Louis7777 » Sat Oct 25, 2014 11:57 am

The link shouldn't be there, at the footer, on every page. It is verbose and it doesn't link to any informational or helpful page.

I suggest that we make a list of cases where it is needed such as an unsuccessful login, logout, style change, language change etc. and think of how we can detect those individual 'errors' and throw a suggestion to the user to “Delete all board cookies”.

Deleting cookies is required to revoke the "Remember me" setting which users may want to do at any point in time.

How about moving it inside the username dropdown list, above the Logout link?

They can logout and login again without checking it.

That would make it useless for login problems.

What do you suggest in alternative, then?

Like I said, replace it with suggestions at specific places.

For instance, if we can detect an unsuccessful logout then we can show the user a link to “Delete all board cookies”.

IIRC the “Delete all board cookies” link is also required for legal reason in many countries...

I can't recall any such link in any non-phpbb website.

Only the usual cookie notice that "we're using cookies on our website and blah blah blah...".

If website owners want to comply to the silly laws they'd better download extensions.

Just thinking: If "Delete all board cookies" is implemented because of "legal reason in many countries", why Cookie notice, required in all EU countries, is not? (complaining, that extension is already existent is quite silly argument to reply)

There is no real legal reason for its existence. It has been there since the beginning of 3.0 and carried over to 3.1. Not sure of what the need was to have it but it being in the footer means it shows on every page so only showing it on certain pages doesn't sound very feasible.
