[RFC] extending default BBCodes

Post by emosbat »

extending phpbb default bbcodes:
  • adding text alignment bbcodes (left, right, center)
  • adding font selection bbcode (font family/type)

these buttons missed in phpbb and exists in most systems by default.
I think these are some base bbcodes that could include in phpbb,
for example why we have font color but not font type?

+1 for alignment
-1 for font selection, styles are styled in the way it fits. Font selection would break nice look.

[font=Courier]I'm pretty sure that we can already do this[/font]

EDIT: Oh, maybe not. Thought that was possible.

We have Custom BBCodes built-in to phpBB already.

I think you misinterpreted that.
We have the custom BBCode system, not those specific BBCodes merged in phpBB.

Maybe what would be better would be an Import feature for Custom BBCodes. That way people could produce packs of BBCodes (like they do for smilies) and people could import them all at once instead of having to add them one at a time.

The downside is that your friendly hacker could produce a pack that also includes some nasty ones (like using iFrame to grab malware or JavaScript to do nasty stuff), so people would have to check the codes first.

Of course, hackers can already do that now with unvalidated MODs distributed from supposed "MOD sites" (not that I'm aware of any such sites).

if you are going to add WYSIWYG editor in future then these two BBCodes would be the most to include so it is better to include them sooner. all WYSIWYG editors support alignment and font style.

+1 for alignment and font.

But [font] would be better hidden, like the current [email] BBcode.
