Oh, I didn't realise that that was what was meant, I thought he meant using them in Prosilver. I've got nothing against using it in a separate style.
naderman wrote:Rather than just raging against anyone who dare suggest anything other than what you want, maybe think about the other options and consider if they aren't doable as well. As they quite definitely are and have been used by others in the past. You might also have noticed that you are the only person going on about requiring Javascript, and maybe should consider if you should go along with what everyone else appears to think would be a better solution, rather than continuing this fight forever.
I'm not against a style from scratch, I just don't think it will happen, and I think that if it does it won't improve on Prosilver on the mobile.

I wouldn't be arguing if I weren't offering to develop it!

My bad, I was looking for automatic detection and links with "Mobile" in. It never even occurred to me that people might still use WAP! xD

As far as I know, Arty already has made mobile themes for phpBB and they work fine.

We all agree its the best option because doing it all in one (like i tried) cost more bandwidth and may require javascript, which is a no-no.

So, its clear that a mobileprosilver needs to be made.
Slightly better English than it was in 2005, still improving :D

We don't care what they do as far as adding bloat and unnecessary features that only a minor subset of users would even think about thinking about using. However, in this case, it is smart to follow trends. People are tending towards using mobile devices to access web content, so it only makes sense to give them a user-friendly experience via a user friendly style.

yep it a core theme, and it works when javascript is turned off

Well automatic detection is working for me, so I guess it work base on user-agent.

Something like http://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/style ... er_mobile/ would be good, my only question is, will it work without javascript?

Hello,
absolutely +1! It's just state-of-the-art.

Make a combination of:
Add a field/column called style_type to STYLES_TABLE. Use this column in combination with:
Add auto detection for mobile devices (non JS).
Add a new user_setting and board_setting for the mobile style.

Bye Martin

After a recent website team meeting [whilst discussing this as it's being developed by the website team] it was pointed out that it is better to have a mobile style with JS than no mobile style. If the mobile doesn't have JS then it will automatically revert back to prosilver. The majority of mobile devices support JS anyway.

In a recent test of mine on a fishing board (so non-technical users), 99.8% of requests from mobile devices supported JavaScript.
