phpBB Missing Features ?

Postby utomo » Sun Dec 18, 2011 2:41 am

rom my view, phpBB missing some good features:
1. WYSWIG editor
2. Archiving
viewtopic.php?f=72&t=614824
3. HTML Post
4. Trashcan Forum
5. Calendar

Any info about this ?
I hope it can be included as core instead of mod
Thankyou

I'm saying no to HTML Post, because that will allow users to put in javascript code in, and god knows what that would do to other people's computers.

I think Trashcan Forum will be in phpbb 3.1, not too sure.

What has a calendar got to do with a bulletin board?!

WSYWIG has been discussed... I'm not sure what the verdict was.
Not sure about Archiving either.

As for HTML post, that's going to be a definite no.

I think they're going with Soft Delete rather than a trash can forum.

As for the calendar, I'm not sure that that is a needed feature in a forum software. Perhaps a MOD would be better for this.

is there any works for Archiving ?

I believe somebody already do it. but not share it.
I don't think Gaia Forum with 2 Billion Post did not have the Archiving

You mean like vBulletin's "archiving"? I never quite understood what was going on there since you could still see the original post/topic though I'm sure there is much more going on underneath but on the surface it almost looks like a bunch of posts/topics that were flagged as "archived" and that's it. I assume the benefit would be for an index attached to an extra column that indicates if an item is archived reducing the size of query results?

Last time I looked (probably vBulletin 3.5), their archive feature was roughly equivalent to phpBB's "print view".

Mybb has a similar archive feature: http://community.mybb.com/archive/index.php

They say its mainly for search engines but if they included a quick reply it would be good for mobile devices as well

Those are a bit confusing to me, specially if you found them on Google or something, but thats the idea in some cases, so...
Sorry for my bad english, still improving.

May I know why HTML Post is No ?
security reason because of JS ? I think we can disable it if necessary.
and by having the HTML post, I think we can reduce the server load to translate to BB code and vise versa.
