Re: BBCode Admin Permissions

For spam problems, I highly recommend you read this page: Preventing Spam in phpBB3.

The Q&A CAPTCHA is especially effective, but mainly for unique questions, not common questions like "What colour is the sky?".

Yes, true, that's a #3, and probably better.

Re: Provide better ALT Names on images.

[url=http://www.phpbb.com/]Visit phpBB![/url] [url]http://www.phpbb.com/[/url] are allowed. Can't the same be done for img without breaking anything? Yes, that would be better. The only (small) downside is that special characters (eg. "]") would break it, which is why having the ALT descr...

Re: BBCode Admin Permissions

You didn't get my point. What I wanted to say that there should be some additional special permissions for Site Admin than Members. I have already looked for MODs but found nothing. How does this improve communication? Features like this are rather... trivial, and useless in my opinion. Is there an...

Re: Provide better ALT Names on images.

hum... I dont think it would break the phpbb BBcode System. The IMG BBCode already uses the alt and loads the alt from the image file, from something like : I know, but all of the BBCodes would have to be somehow changed so that they can allow for a BBCode-style ALT attribute. Re: BBCode Admin Permissions

What happens if a normal user quotes an admin with a certain BBCode?

My personal opinion is that phpBB is a bulletin board; a medium for communication between a (possibly large) group of people. Features such as this aren't relevant to this and hence should be left as MODs, not in the core of phpBB.

Re: Provide better ALT Names on images.

Like I said, I do agree with you. I just realised, you are correct about Google using the alt attribute for image searches. I was just against the use of "SEO" as a reason for adding the alt attribute for images. The biggest problem would be that changing such behaviour would break BBCode ...

Re: Provide better ALT Names on images.

I don't see SEO as a reason to accept anything.

Using the alt attribute is, however, better for blind people and for accessibility reasons (which is probably why search engines have made it a factor in search engine ranking). ;)

Re: xenforo, new forum software, great source for ideas

If they're good ideas then I won't object, unless their patented. ;)

I think the discussion should be whether any of the ideas are any good and how they would benefit phpBB users. Of course, things like bloat, usability, etc. are considerations.

Re: [RFC] HTML5 doctype

I saved a web page in Russian (utf-8 encoded) to disk, and opened the saved copy in firefox. Firefox showed the page in iso-8859-1 encoding. I had to manually switch encoding to utf-8 to read the page. http://www.w3.org/TR/html5-diff/#character-encoding I think because it was saved to disk, Firefox...
