Find the post you want to reply to privately and look to the right at their user info, and click on the PM button, that will start a PM(private message) to them with a quote of their post.

What is the purpose of bbcode bit field? I'm not sure about that. Have you checked with the people running SFS? My understanding is that they don't won't people using it for anything other than checking registration. The only thing different is the header, otherwise the same. If anything it shows that just a unified header can make the difference in the looks of a site.
