Re: How many programmers ?
Being a team member isn't just about skills, it's about compatibility and trust. Exactly. My team is mostly hand-picked, with advice and consent (to borrow a phrase) from the rest of the team. There are members of my community that are undoubtedly skilled, but with whom I do not get along well and ...
Re: Why CMS?
They're useful for rapid distribution of news information and integration of new features, such as RSS feeds, for people that aren't that good at or interested in coding their own projects. Sites like Neowin, AnandTech, and ArsTechnica are portals, but are heavily customized for a particular look an...

Sorry. I deal with this misuse of the word all the time.

Re: different "messages per page" setting for ever
I would think it is maybe better to have it as a user option in the UCP to be set in general for all forums, but maybe as a user preference seems better, sort of like the number or search hits per page for search engines. Then you get some comedian who sets it to 10,000 ;) I have a similar feature ...

Well, some of them are clearly in areas where all the local silos have been decommissioned, which are verified by the IAEA and Russian military, so they'd be safer.
Besides, how many guys can honestly say, "Come on inside, baby, and I'll show you my silo?"

Re: Password hashing function
Maybe, maybe not. But pages on Geocities have been defaced because of poor security, and with a few exceptions, who cares about pages there? I joke about my "paranoia." But I don't have any tarps at home, nor do I have more than one roll of duct tape, and even that's beginning to run a bit...

Re: Password hashing function
Firstly, because I can. Secondly, what does it hurt? If I can get access to it, then what's so bad about securing it in the way I see fit, just in case someone does decide to test it? I have only and exactly those ports open that need to be. Services are handled through secure ports where possible. ...
