I just realised, that this is actually a little broken currently. It should show the correct colour dynamically all the time (when applying roles, opening the advanced screen, etc). You are missing the new admin.css - either you didn't update your CVS properly (sf might be slow with it), or you didn't refresh your browser cache yet.

Is that IE6 or IE7? I noticed some strange behaviour with IE7 regarding caching too.

Edit: A quick test shows me that this is indeed happening in IE7.
