Reconsider template info

As long as there are online forums, almost every forum shows the number of topics and posts per forum, or the number of replies and views per topic. Every template I know from every forum software I know displays this information. But what purpose serves this information? How many board visitors act...

Update from 2.0.x?

There are still a lot of boards out there that run on 2.0.x. I visit one of them (a computer related website for crying out loud) on a regular basis, often suggesting that they should upgrade. They are still refusing to do so... As far as I know they are just one of the many that don't see the benef...

Re: URL Rewriting MOD

.html is so better than .php Nonsense. Search engines couldn't care less about the extension. Time to call in the Mythbusters : Providing search engines with dynamic URLs should be favored over hiding parameters to make them look static. We might have problems crawling and ranking your dynamic URLs...

Highway of Life wrote:But this is not the case. Human Readable URLs mainly benefit Search Engines as added Keywords within the page, this only reinforces the keywords already set by the page and topic title, which Search Engines already use for the index.

Re: URL Rewriting MOD

It makes more sense to put such information in the title-attribute. All in all: I think URL rewriting is just a case of personal preference. I for one don't care a bit about it. It doesn't do anything for SEO ( really: it doesn't ), it's just a matter of user friendlyness. Some people like it, other...

Re: [prosilver] Forum and topic listing using tables

You can use display: in CSS on tables to, well, make it not a table. So you propose to use HTML table and counter-act this with CSS? Doesn't seem logic to me. Or do I misunderstand you here? Sort of doesn't make any sense, because the reason why tables are still so popular is because of 1. compatib...

Re: [RFC] Default image resizing

As related issue, if implementing jQuery is accepted, then we could also use a jQuery lightbox to display attached images. Please, anything but a lightbox. Although I would consider this a templating/styling issue :) As I said, lightbox is just eyecandy to me. It doesn't hurt to implement it, but i...

Re: [RFC] Default image resizing

Well, I kinda like the idea of resizing server sided. On the other hand, I still think lightbox/highslide etc is just eyecandy. Nice, but it hurts performance on older machines. When lightbox or an alternative is implemented, the admin or the users should have the possibility to turn it off and fall...

Re: Secret question(s)

think these security measures will make phpbb even more secure. Why? Since the password already shouldn't be possible to guess, a secret question doesn't really add anything. It's like having a high-security vault and adding some extra duct tape to it. Yes, it slows the hacker down a bit, but not s...

Re: [prosilver] Forum and topic listing using tables

From a semantic point of view a table isn't a weird choice for this. However, from a styling point of view it's much easyer not to use tables for general layout since it's not very flexible. Therefore I prefer using divisions with lists.
