Official vs. Unofficial betas .. ?

I've always been under the impression that a beta release is one that is open to public testing (while an alpha release was limited to in-house testing). As the CVS snapshots are publicly available (and, judging by the bug tracker, encouraged for testing/bughunting use), are we not already using Oly...

Re: Suspecting beta release very very soon!

Just about every even faintly established board, I'd imagine.

Without being too specific... something longer than 1 day, though less than 12 months. ;)

Without wanting to ask for anything too specific, would you say we're looking at days/weeks/months before a beta release?

Re: Beta Download Mirrors

Alert the mailing list a day after posting here. That way all those who went away thinking Olympus was a myth and those who still keep an eye on area51 won't be hitting the server simultaneously.

Re: What OS do you use?

WinXP and Gentoo Linux.

I've tried several other Linux distros but found none with both the tweakability and simultaneous efficiency (read: Portage rocks ass) that Gentoo has.

Re: Not sure if this is an oversight or deliberate ...

If it's a bug, I expect the devs will ignore this. If they decided to take it out, I'm not bug reporting so I doubt anyone really minds.

I agree, lack of action buttons encourages people to login, I'd just like to see it as one or the other: quote and reply available, or neither.

Not sure if this is an oversight or deliberate ...

I hesitate in pointing this out as it may be one of those bugs people are burnt alive for pointing out but .. Currently, you can reply to a post when not logged in and be sent to the login page before actually replying. However, if you want to quote a message in your reply, you have to login manuall...

A way to stem the "When?" threads.

Just a suggestion that I may be burnt alive for, but could a dev make a stickied thread with an update, say, once every three months?

"We do not expect to release any version of 3.0 (beta, RC or otherwise) in the next three months" would probably shut quite a few people up.
