Re: Thread title=first 50 char of first post?
Well, I think the easiest solution, which I admit is kinda dirty, would be to extend the topics table with a field that contains the preview. It will be filled on topic creation. This will mean duplication of data, but should hardly affect performance. Of course, it needs to be ensured that after e...

Re: First Impressions!
Perhaps two buttons on the forum creation screen which would send you either way depending on which you clicked to create would keep everyone happy?
Minor issue though, how often do you create forums on the majority of boards?

Re: Thread title=first 50 char of first post?
Woud it possibly increase load? It would have to pull the topic text from the db, put that proberly won't be too much of a problem. The viewforum screen is usually one of the heaviest hit pages in a forum, with people refreshing checking for new posts etc. In a large forums, the posts table would h...

Re: Thread title=first 50 char of first post?
It probably would be best kept as a MOD for performance reason, or atleast be a toggleable options. For large forums, it would be a significant decrease in performance to have to read the posts tables for each topic on the viewforum screen, unless the first few characters of the post were cached in ...

Re: helping mod authors port mods to next phpbb version...
Most likely, it would be quicker to rewrite all mods from scratch. The internals of phpBB has changed dramatically, heavy use of OOP and better reusable functions, which should simplify modifications and even so, should be used to keep your mods more forward compatible. (When classes are bugfixed by...

Re: phpBB 2 Development
phpBB2 has been feature frozen since April 2002
I do believe they will continue to maintain it for sometime even after 3.0's release.

Re: Updating
personally, i expressed my view that rc-1 is a way too late point in time for the upgrade script to make an appearance, because this will basically mean (imo) that the beta testing will be limited to small boards, so any issue that's related to database size will not be caught by the beta Betas sho...

Re: Being tired of waiting and waiting
If you've been waiting since the 2.0 release in 2002 which many of us are, you'd know that the development team went through atleast three significant shakeups over the last 4 years. If you track the code changes, the frequency of commits and the maturity of the code, you'd know that right now and f...
