Not at all. Spambots can simply follow the HTTPS links to get to your site, and register as usual. SSL only encrypts the communication, but generally does not (on its own) authenticate the user in any way.

Re: Display Start Date of Post on Mouse Over?

Just to see how old a topic is without going to the first page of the thread. I have one topic that is semi-active, and has been for just about four years now. Doesn't hurt anything.

Re: phpBB2 -> phpBB3 Upgrade Script Discussion

I've not got a particularly reliable broadband connection. It's unlikely it will stay up for the 6+ hours required for conversion which means the convert script being run and refreshed via my browser will timeout and the convert fail when i loose connection. It tracks what's completed, and can pick...

Re: help

If you're asking about it for phpBB 3.0, no support is allowed here (from staff or from other users) per the rules at the top of the forum. You'll need to wait until at least RC1 before code mods may be discussed in the open. If you're asking about it for phpBB 2.0.x, please look for mods at the mai...

Holy....

Twenty million posts? Sixty thousand users? And a timing check... 40 posts in 60 seconds?

That's... impressive.

Re: Upgrade Script Question

I also run a heavily modified forum. What happens during the conversion is that a new installation is used to copy the relevant data out from the old and into the new. This allows you to go back to your old installation if you chose... poorly. :) None of your old data will be hurt, and most schema c...

Re: Better Spambot Protection in phpBB3?

I find that performing manual authorization is the easiest way to take care of them. This has two effects: 1) The clear spammers are removed immediately. I've found that pretty much everyone with a birthday of 28 March 1983 is a spammer, and I have about six e-mail filters that I use to deal with th...

Re: phpBB2 -> phpBB3 Upgrade Script Discussion

The converter only does batches of 2000 posts ( previously 6000, as we were testing it on the phpBB.com DB ), and have successfully restarted it (also by deliberately killing it) with it only clearing out the last partially completed batch (otherwise will get double-converted topics/posts/PMs). It ...

Re: phpBB2 -> phpBB3 Upgrade Script Discussion

It is able to be resumed. To clarify (at least how I saw it working through two crashes), it picks up from the last successfully completed point. This means that if it's in the middle of converting posts, it will start from the beginning of converting posts, clearing the _posts table and starting o...

Re: Bug is less,

I'd like to hope for that, as the anniversary of my forums are coming around in mid-February, and I'd like to give my users a little present.
