Re: Question for Xampp users (or MySQL experts)

Well, I uploaded everything to my much slower Linux box to see what would happen and sure enough the query times more than doubled. So at least I know it has nothing to do with Windows. Go figure. ;)

Thanks for all the comments.

Re: Question for Xampp users (or MySQL experts)

I'm testing with about 21000 topics and around 230,000 posts.

Tonight I think I'm going to try to load up everything to my much slower linux box and see what happens.

Try modifying this SELECT COUNT(distinct p.post_id) AS newtopic_total FROM phpbb3_posts p, phpbb3_topics t WHERE p.post_time > 1173967216 AND p.post_id = t.topic_first_post_id into this SELECT COUNT(distinct p.post_id) AS newtopic_total FROM phpbb3_posts p JOIN phpbb3_topics t ON p.post_id = t.topi...

Re: galleries

I don't think they've completely finished rebuilding the site. The Customize section where the mods and styles should be are completely empty.

Re: Question for Xampp users (or MySQL experts)

The mod is only beta so it doesn't surprize me that it's not efficient. I'll give your query a try tonight when I get home from work and see if it produces good results. 8)

Re: Question for Xampp users (or MySQL experts)

Well, I'm by no means a master at SQL. So I haven't tried to analyze any of the queries. What I do know is that the site that is hosting the mod is executing the same number of queries in a fraction of the time. But their site does not have anywhere near the volume of posts that I'm playing with. So...

Re: Question for Xampp users (or MySQL experts)

Closing Xampp doesn't make much of a difference. Maybe 0.1s. The queries that take the longest are the ones which include tables _posts and _topics. These just happen to be the largest tables in the database. This query took 0.00056s: SELECT u.username, u.user_id, u.user_type, u.user_allow_viewonlin...

Question for Xampp users (or MySQL experts)

I find that my home test server running Xammp is not very efficient at running queries. I was hoping that someone could give me some pointers on how to speed it up. - PC = AMD XP2800+ with 1GB Ram. WinXP SP2. - Xampp (1.5.5) is installed on it's own hard drive. - PHP 5.2 - MySQL 5.0.27 - phpbb2 -> p...

The answer was already on the first page. I was just sharing why someone would want to remove the foe functionality in response to Smokeydogg's question.
