Re: [Olympus] Has it failed already?

Regarding QR: The way I understand it (and I'm hesitant to "speak for" the developers here, but this is what I remember the justification being...in any case, I hope they will correct me if I misrepresent anything), there is a belief (rightly or wrongly) that the QR feature has a tendency to encoura...

Re: [Olympus] Has it failed already?

I do not think that being open-sourced is an excuse to go slowly: Drupal is open-sourced, and smaller than phpBB, but it is still a startling example of a Web 2.0 application. I do not think whatever speed (or lack thereof) other OSS projects may display is relavent. Olympus development is proceedi...

Re: AJAX in Olympus?

MHO: "I want Ajax" doesn't make any sense to me. Ajax isn't a feature I can use. It doesn't post, or have attachments, or anything. It's a technology. I'm much more interested in what the previous two posts have talked about: what *features* do you want? If Ajax is the best way to do them, then it w...

Re: Now IF i am reading Bug Tracker correctly Beta should be

I swear, some of you folks must be trolls. You've been predicting "days" for months now. If you don't want to engage in the fun of predicting a beta release date, than perhaps you shouldn't get angry at those who do. I predict the Beta will be released. TwistedWeather has publicly reproached the de...

Re: Suspecting beta release very very soon!

Now that's just one writhing ball of id. Several months is nothing. You'll understand when you're a grownup...time starts to fly. Listen here i am not a KID. I am a 36 yr old man. Just because someone isnt happy with YOUR TIMELINE doesn't make them a kid. Perhaps you WILL understand that when your ...

Re: Suspecting beta release very very soon!

Many people conflate "open source" with "developed with someone's free time" (as Highway of Life seemed to in this case) which is not necessarily the case. One can develop proprietary software in free time, or be paid for open source, though the reverse is more often true.

Re: Suspecting beta release very very soon!

Glad that you think ( In the next few months ) is soon. Because to me ( And MOST of the rest of the WORLD ) it isnt. Especially considering how long this project has already been going on and whats left to do. I know the developers can care less ( Which i find kinda odd and rude personally) about o...

Re: Olympus / phpBB 3 Beta 1 will be released on 6/1/06 ?

Date formats are learned by rote memorization, so that you no longer have to parse the actual numbers...how much "sense" one makes isn't all that important, unless one has to deal with dates numerically/hierarchically within a system (say, for programming). I learned mm/dd/(yy)yy. dd/mm/yyyy is conf...

Re: Suspecting beta release very very soon!

n.b., "speed" in this context refers to how long it takes for product delivery, not speed as in execution. So, with your phpBB is (cheap) inexpensive to enduser, and high quality (good code), then it follows that you won't get the instant gratification of (fast) el rapido product delivery. Plug a f...

Re: Sugestion - Hook system like on vB 3.5

But thats the whole point. Use EasyMOD if you don't want to run through MOD installation manually. Why reinvent the wheel if its already there and waiting to be used? Actually, I thought I was using EasyMOD, but I wasn't. I was manually editing code. My mix-up...retract my previous statements...Eas...
