Re: Warning users, does it have any sense ?

No, that would be a terrible idea to have a wide phpbb record. Im just talking about a single phpbb board. Yup, that's what I'm talking about, too. It would be impractical and generally unuseful to try to create some kind of universal list due to different board standards, different administrative ...

Re: Warning users, does it have any sense ?

I find the whole "warning" system dubious at best. What point is there in banning a member when that person can simply create a new account? Worse, by banning someone you throw down a potential challenge of who can outlast whom in a war of mischievous posts and false accounts. Far better in most ca...

Re: phpBB 3.0 Documentation backend

Indeed, I would be interested to see the original DocBook as well.

Re: Warning users, does it have any sense ?

... I suggest making a warning system similar to the one from IPB, where the user have a graphical bar showing the warn level, and if he exceed (let's say 50%), he can't post, 100% -> banned, etc. Thank you. just curious: once a user can't post, why would he/she get any more warnings? Presumably, t...

Re: Warning users, does it have any sense ?

I've had to manage the moderators at a large commercial board. We modded it to create a warn function (which did not autoban, but kept track of the number of warnings, and allowed mods to ban only after the 4th warning). Warning functionality is extremely important in such a circumstance. Even bette...

Re: So, the last surprise of Olympus is ...

There is a significant difference between punishment and practicality. Few projects have a designer like subBlue, and when subSilver came to light, other competitors basically mimicked a good deal of the design ideas from it, so that by the time the design was gold, it already felt kinda generic. By...

Re: Olympus vs. the rest

Thanks, interesting replies. No one has given any real reasons as to why they think SMF is not up to par, though. OK, vBulletin is a bit heavy and expensive... but what about SMF? I've played around for a couple of hours and I'm just setting up a test board, and it seems pretty light and feature-ri...

Re: Waited for BETA, for nothing.

I'm not really sure I'd want to inject beta software into any production environment. It's just borrowing trouble, and I have enough of that already. ;) This board is a live environment. Seems to work just fine. If I was able to develop phpBB, then I'd probably be a bit more comfortable using it in...

Re: Waited for BETA, for nothing.

There really aren't a whole lot of examples of complex products that *do* provide beta-to-beta upgrades that I am aware of. It's fairly normal for betas to be a "blow away, then re-install" kinda deal. I'm not really sure I'd want to inject beta software into any production environment. It's just bo...

Re: Version 3.0 release?

In addition to Graham's points about conversion, consider that we have not yet released any beta version. There are beta and RC builds still to go through...that says "months" to me.
