Re: Capacity

I was a manager for a really large board (1 million+ posts), and the biggest issues in terms of performance were the search index, and using relatively old, relatively slow hardware. The actual traffic wasn't too bad; it was the search index updating that killed performance.

Re: How do you search inside a topic/thread?

I'm confused...are you talking about the "Search Within" criteria on the Search page? If so, the options are pretty clear, and the default is to search "Post subjects and message text." If you mean while you are already in a thread, then most browsers enable you to search a page when you press Ctrl F.

1% to 5% would be 1000+ lines to 5000+ lines. He said a few hundred.

Re: spammers, and rel='nofollow'

I'm not sure I understand the problem...I have a phpBB2 board, and didn't implement the CAPTCHA for the longest time. After a couple of years, we started getting spam members (members with suspicious names, and website links even more suspicious). After about a week of carefully deleting all such re...

I believe the implied statement is "All the 'finished' software out there that does non-trivial work still has bugs."

Re: Search Backend Selection

I can't quite think of a hugely compelling reason not to index it, Certainly, especially with the performance improvements of Olympus, you're probably right. But I was working on a project where search performance in phpBB 2.0 was awful (it may have been a hardware issue as well...I don't know if w...

Re: Is the new style for phpBB fully complete?

No it doesnt. If it goes into next year, or even into September - December I reckon its way to long. Seeing how the bug tracker is going now, I think gold will be released in like mid - late August, or early September. But hey, thats what I think. I certainly dont think it'll be released end of yea...

I thought we were talking about whether or not it was an important/good idea, regardless of its current state of includedness?
