Re: heh (?)

Elf, Here's a quick question. If you tried to access http://www.go-gaia.com" target="_blank yesterday you'd notice it was pretty sluggish. Was it the board's fault, the host, the database or somewhere else between? If you are wondering what http://www.go-gaia.com" target="_blank it's a phpbb 2.0.x b...

Ugh, transparent PNGs aren't supported in IE 6 either?

Re: Default 2.2 theme. Images to optimised PNG?

There's no licensing conflict at all. One is free, the other is not. You can still use GIF's freely, regardless of whether or not the license has expired. You do need to pay royalties if you are distributing software that encodes GIF's. My bad for not explaining this better. The licensing issue I m...

Re: Call me crazy, but here's my portal for phpbb 2.1.2 :)

It's not ready yet is the short story :)

Don't try running the CVS version since it has no instructions on what changes you need to make to your existing phpbb 2.2 installation.

Basically I'm taking a break and will get back to finishing it in April.

Re: Database conversion 2.0 -> 2.1/2.2

Attachments work in my 6+ week old CVS snapshot :) Which just shows you the real dangers of using a CVS version on a production site and should discourage the orginal author from even attempting to convert your board over. What was working nicely one day can be broken the other. Don't risk it at thi...

Re: Default 2.2 theme. Images to optimised PNG?

Microsoft doesn't like anything associated with the word "free". PNG has no licensing issues unlike GIFS. It's not a technical issue of MSIE unable to support PNGs, I'm sure they could code it to do so if they wanted to in 5 minutes. They won't though because of the GIF vs PNG licensing bullcrap.

Re: Anyone else having trouble installing latest CVS?

That is why the CVS release I have is 6+ weeks old :) If it works as well as you like depsite some problems it's best to stick with it.

Only advice is to keep trying previous CVS releases. That's all you can do since they aren't supported.

Re: Database query problem

Best bet is to keep trying previous CVS downloads till you find one that isn't buggy :) If you look at that SQL statement you see the problem is right here: WHERE s.style_id IN (, ) It's expecting it in the form of two numbers separated by a comma. For me it looks like this: WHERE s.style_id IN (1,1...

Re: Smarty

I don't know how's that in 2.2 but in 2.0.6 there were too many things hardcoded... Also, phpBB's templating system is also kind of language... phpbb's templating system consists of very simple HTML tags and some routines for filling in the tags. Pretty much all you need to know are: {tag} <!-- BEG...

Re: Smarty

I'm not a fan of Smarty either. You have to learn a whole new language just to use it, in fact if you go that far you may as well just use PHP itself for the template engine like Harry Fuechs did with his 20ish line AwesomeTemplateEngine class at http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/showthread.php?thread...
