Re: link in profile to acp

At the bottom you see that I have admin status. No, "admin status" doesn't mean anything in 3.0; you can gain access to the admin pannel with permission on any of the modules in the admin pannel. Unlike 2.0.x, admins don't have full control unless explicitly given it. You'll need to make sure your ...

Re: New CAPTCHA

Edge detection is no good if you can't extract relevant information from the rest. Edge detection is but a tool in the toolkit for breaking captcha's. Also, I'm not sure why you made the result black and white. Decent edge detection doesn't need to make things black/white to work. You can overlay t...

Re: Password hashing function

Password hashing is important, but with easymod its funny; simply back up the DB and crack the hash. But the FTP hash is a matter of WTF?!? EasyMOD doesn't hash the FTP password, it encrypts it with Blowfish, which means that it isn't relevent to this conversation. In addition to that, if the attac...

Re: The new phpBB version - Guess the Release Date Competit

Just to bump this, there's been 245 entries and only 26 of those are incorrect so far, so there's a good chance left for well over 200 people.

Re: Visual Confirmation

I never got the hang of how the points are generated. Could you pm me the technique used? Serge Belongie, Jitendra Malik and Jan Puzicha did a paper on such techniques in July 2001 which was presented at the Eighth IEEE International Conference on Computer Vision. You might be able to find this pap...

Re: Visual Confirmation

I don't think FreeCAP is that easy. Has anybody managed to break it already? Well, based on a similar implementation problem, freecap can be broken. You can request the same code to be done in a diffrent way by extracting the freecap image URL, and then re-calling the image. Take, for example, this...

Re: Security: "The Sleeper Awakes!"

Ouf of curiosity, what are your thoughts on the idea (as stated in another forum) of having each forum define a personal security question (and answer) in the phpbb configuration file for new registrations? Since each server question would be completely different, would that serve as an entropic ba...

Re: did phpbb3 [Olympus] is a free version

There really is no guarentee, however, that it'll always be free (look at what the guys at Invision did...). Please! phpBB is under GPL . We *could* sell it, but then whoever buys it can do what they like with the source. It would be illegal for us to pull an 'Invision' with reguards to phpBB. NeoT...
