Actually it is not only me, but a much more wider part of the communauty (hopefully ! :)), and I'm not sure a number of responses to a topic is a good indicator of what it is convenient to a product - I may be wrong, but I don't think so ;). For my personal purpose, if I go with 2.2 at release time ...

Easymod need at least the phpBB environement to run into. If you have a phpBB running on your site, you can modify whatever stands in the accessible files (basicely all what belong to the domain).

That's why I was writing "coherent", but actually all is linked : if the core code is not organized to be enough opened to mods, you are in a situation where mods will be more complex to compensate, so of course more risky for performances and/or even appliance. There I was more thinking of a coherent usage of easymod as a plugger, as the core code won't allow an extensive plug-ins system as you have stated :).

That's where an improvement of the ability to have some plug-ins system would be very important. At this point, I see really no reason to include other feature than publish-relative and typing-help ones to a board, which for sure doesn't cover any attachement, but I see a lot of reason to discourage...
