GIF does have an advantage over PNG, although this advantage is not in the format itself but rather in bowsers support for it. If I recall correctly GIF supports transparancy and IE fully supports this. PNG also supports transparency and I beleive better than GIF does, but guess which browser doesn'...

1280 x 1024 x 32bit @ 75Hz on a 19" Monitor

SHS` Whats the reason for your resolution? It's not a standard resolution and doesn't quite seem right for a wide screen LCD or similar.

That seems rather drastic.
By blocking the range you potentially block many legitimate users, especially if that range belongs to a major ISP. As an admin you'd probably end up getting flodded by messages from legitimate users asking why they suddenly can't log onto the forum.

How effective is blocking an IP address in this situation, considering that the vast majority of users have a dynamically assigned IP address which changes each time they log on?

Thanks for the confirmation dhn. It's great to hear that they will be included in phpBB2.2. My question now is, will the admin be restricted to defining new fields for the user profile, or will admins also be able to define new fields that are required to be filled in during the registration proces...
