Re: Firefox 0.9

www.mozilla.com/products/firefox/. :D New skin looks great, and the new method of managing extensions and themes is a good improvement. If you are still using Internet Explorer (why????) then this is a good time to swap. ;) I think I'll stick with IE. After a discussion with Tony Chor about IE at C...

Re: PHPbb team : you have to catch up with the compition

From what I understand, vBulletin also allows you to create such things as long as you have a license and aren't handing out code.

Re: PHPbb team : you have to catch up with the compition

ah well, there you go. While query counts do not a load hog alone make ... it would appear that some "questionable" design decisions may have been made. Again I add my previous disclaimer :) The page only has to be loaded once for queries to go down considerably. It isn't a show stopper considering...

Re: PHPbb team : you have to catch up with the compition

The low query count is only obtainable with caching and without the caching, queries would shoot through the roof. Infact, having uncached templates makes the query count rise one query per an uncached template.

Re: PHPbb team : you have to catch up with the compition

That apparently (AIUI) doesn't include those which are cached ... ours does. Note that I'm speaking based on the word of others who've done a look-see so I may be incorrect. With that said you should also keep in mind that query counts are not the be all and end all of everything ;) Actually, I use...

Re: PHPbb team : you have to catch up with the compition

You can turn off several features and get 7-8 queries on every page. I have everything except karma turned on and the forum uses 9 queries per a page and 14 queries on forumdisplay.php.

Re: PHPbb team : you have to catch up with the compition

My point is that if the developers added those features, there would be no reason (besides being cheap of course) not to switch to vBulletin. Especially considering phpBB 2.2 is taking too long to develop. It has been in development for as long as I can remember. That was one of the reasons why I sw...

Re: PHPbb team : you have to catch up with the compition

Indeed converters are not any good really, they have a ton of flaws etc... I believe a pure version of phpbb is the way to go... patiance... I can vouch for that. I switched to vBulletin 3.0.0 (now at RC4) and found the thread read/unread marking system to be flawed, quotes aren't quite as good as ...

Re: Signuture and Avatar permissions...

jeroen234, I care how fast my forum loads for dial up users. Meaning having remote avatars disabled and uploadable avatars enabled is a must. I simply want to be able to prevent guests from eating up more bandwidth than they need to. FF8Jake, having the server check the image's file size is a bad i...

Re: Signuture and Avatar permissions...

Quote: " To save on bandwidth costs, do you think it would be possible to add additional permissions so it would be possible to prevent Guests from viewing Signutures and Avatars? " Um, you can specify limits for both of these. Also, avatars have no effect on your bandwidth if they are on a differe...
