would it be possible to generate a little math example via those graphics. something like
10 - 4 or 4 + 6 or 2*6 ?
wouldn't this help preventing bots from spamming or registering?

hm, after the suggestion of shs' i played around a bit with mime types and my headache about this didn't got any better. after reading quite some blogs about this topic, it seems to me that nobody has a really good solution to this problem

what if karma rating is not calculated new every time a posts is voted but lets say every x votes or based on the (possible) events system, for example: recalculate karma every night at 4am or whatever. i can imagine that such an approach would put much load away from the server comparing to a reco...

I already considered that based on a very similar suggestion by I think dhn ... the problem is performance. It would require recomputation of the karma for all users on a regular basis.
