Re: SPAMBOTS - how can we stop them - read FIRST post.

FYI I installed the AntiBotQuestion mod linked from the first post in this thread yesterday, and since then...nothin'!! It may also help that the answer to the question is obtained by the user by looking at a JPG file that contains the answer. Until the CAPTCHA is fixed, this works for me.

Did you refresh your templates in the Styles tab of the ACP?

Yes, but only with Firefox. I can stay logged in via Google Chrome.

Re: Spam Bots & phpBB3?

I've made two changes about six hours ago, and (fingers crossed) so far no spam registrations:
1. Implemented the email domain and IP ban lists suggested by Pond Life; and
2. Switched from GD CAPTCHA to non-GD CAPTCHA.

I'll see what happens.

Re: Spam Bots & phpBB3?

I could still use some pointers for how to go about making the required SQL table changes, however. http://phpbbcom.phpbbservice.nl/kb/article/executing-sql-queries-in-phpmyadmin.html Now there's something even someone who's brain-dead like me could follow and execute on. Thank you! I'll try...

Re: Spam Bots & phpBB3?

If you don't want to use a mod you can still use the lists from stopforumspam.com to ban by email and IP in the ACP. The lists are updated regularly though so new ones will be added and you will need to add them yourself in the ACP. I see their lists downloadable as CSVs. What method did you use to...

Re: Spam Bots & phpBB3?

This should help. http://phpbbcom.phpbbservice.nl/kb/article/how-to-install-a-modx-modification.html It does -- thanks, Pit$Bull. It explains to me what the xsl file is for and clears up that confusion. I could still use some pointers for how to go about making the required SQL table changes, howev...

Re: Spam Bots & phpBB3?

Try this approved MOD, works for me. :D Would love to. I haven't installed a MOD since phpBB2, and I used to use EasyMod. I note that this mod has changes to the SQL tables. I can hand-edit PHP code the same as the next guy, but can someone give me a clue how to make the requisite changes to MySQL?...

Re: Spam Bots & phpBB3?

I came here looking for answers because I've seen the exact same behavior over the past week. I'm running 3.0.4 with CAPTCHA enabled.
