Re: [Discussion] Downtime and Server Compromise

It's just sad that it took someone stealing 100 of 1000's of user e-mails for the epiphany. The real epiphany here is people should have to look both ways before crossing the road. I can't imagine any scenario where crossing the road safely isn't a cooperative effort between driver and pedestrian. ...

Re: [Discussion] Downtime and Server Compromise

The problem is that it takes only a handful of creeps to disenfranchise the many people who contribute positively to phpBB. If our current creep is to be taken at face value, s/he was looking for an exploit at phpBB.com. Why? Then we have the disgruntled approving such behavior, even by at least one...

It is. I don't think anyone thought otherwise. ;)

Re: phpBB 3.2 Discussion

I would like to see even one example of a non-trivial OSS project that has succeeded long term without explanation. ;)

Tp put it another way, I suspect that it's the minority of OSS supporters that measure a project's health solely by what goes on in a repo.

Re: phpBB 3.2 Discussion

Going back to the communication "problem" for a minute, I've long wondered whether phpBB as a project would benefit from having a "press secretary." Someone who would not only assume responsibility for encouraging communication within the community, but someone who could also hel...

Re: phpBB 3.2 Discussion

I personally think that the recent activity in London (among other things) demonstrates that enthusiasm for the project still exists. It seems an odd waste of time and energy otherwise. Additionally, the interaction with other projects seems to suggest interest beyond the phpBB community proper -- a...

Re: phpBB 3.2 Discussion

Outside of simply being courteous (and I agree that 3.2 deserves a different sort of reply than the antagonistic environment surrounding 3.0 produced), I'm personally not sure there are good ways to deal with this. Roadmaps are interesting from a development point of view but prone to being interpre...

Re: is "fork" a 4-letter word?

personally, i have absolutely no intention of opening a "competing" bbs somewhere to discuss this open development, and have no intention to log on to someone else's "competing" forum. i expect this is true for most developers. It is true for most content developers. Those that ...

Re: is "fork" a 4-letter word?

This will be interesting to watch. I don't have the open development "ax to grind" that code reader has pretty consistently advocated, so I'm admittedly going to have to be sold on the change just as an observer. I consider that the burden of proof in this case is on those who wish to chan...
