By the way, how do you see what SQL changes have been made from a CVS to another one? Are they listed anywhere? My feeling says, that there is no easy way and you'll just have to keep up with all changes regarding the tables made to the CVS. This would make the cvs-checkin the easiest way... I thin...

Since you did not state, that you are aware of the fact that you will not get any support, I will say it.
If something ever goes wrong, you will have to fix it yourself! Upgrading to RC1 will only get you support, if you updated from the latest stable version of phpBB2.

As long as you didn't change the core tables of phpBB2 you probably won't encounter any problems.
