Re: New CAPTCHA

I'm not convinced that dealing with spam after the fact is such a bad thing. Its pretty easy to pick out a bot or a spammer by what they do right after the register. For example, a bot that registers with the intent to get a link-back, will immediately update their profile with a website, and put li...

Re: New CAPTCHA

You know, I'm almost thinking that we should be spending less time trying to stop spam getting int, and spend more time creating clever ways of dealing with the spam once it does get in. Because lets face it, spam posts and accounts will get through, no matter what. Its how you deal with it that mat...

Re: New CAPTCHA

Might just be me, but that looks pretty breakable...

The bot just has to look for the whitespace. And you would still need a font to do that... even if you didn't the bot could pick up those clear letters I would think...

Re: Javascript, discussed before?

Well, that's a little misleading. First of all, mobile devices and the people using them aren't "text-browsers." Second, the number of people using mobile devices to access the Internet, while relatively small, is above 1% at most major sites. You should also factor in that a site would b...

Re: Javascript, discussed before?

Well said Handyman.
I was hoping to find the magical reason why (seemingly) so many people disable javascript, but since there is no logical reason why they do, I don't feel so bad about using whatever javascript I like. ;) If they want to miss out on half the web, thats their choice.

Re: Javascript, discussed before?

Who made you a moderator? All I wanted was a reason so calm down. I used the built in pop-up blocker in Firefox and I rarely get popups. Ads are easily done without javascript, and these days the adversitsing is so relevant to the content that usually that ads are something you will be interested to...

Re: Javascript, discussed before?

"DarsVaeda", what was seriously the most usless post I have ever read. Thanks for re-pointing out the obvious.

What I would like to know is why anyone would want to disable it. There must be a reason.

Re: Javascript, discussed before?

Have you ever written a website in Javascript? Obvously not, looking at your statement. A completly javascript website (or one that heavily uses javascript) can be a very powerful thing, including such things as AJAX (A maricle for 56k users), so long as you do it cross-browser. You can do some real...

Re: Javascript, discussed before?

You never know what will happen, so 1 extra line isn't that much. But what If I want to write a website that primarily uses javascript, or is completly javascript? Then I have to re-write the whole thing in HTML for compatibility. Not a chance of me doing that. I could see your point if Javascript ...
