Re: How can anyone help the code development ?

If you really want to help then you are best installing and running the beta of phpBB3 and looking out for any bugs and then submitting them with a fix if you can write a fix, http://www.phpbb.com/bugs/ It would also be possible also to write any useful comments on existing bugs in that same forum ...

Re: Bug is less,

hmm from the looks of the bugs .. i think there would be a Beta 6 .. :? Always a possibility, of course. However I notice that a very high percentage of them are with the converter, not with the core software. So if that gets cleaned up pretty well over the next week or two then I would think that ...

Re: Bug is less,

Yes but you don't generally want to ship the software with too many known bugs :) Depends on the nature of the "bugs" - the term can cover a multitude of issues from spelling errors, formatting suggestions, and performance issues all the way up to major data corruption. Obviously you don't want to ...

Re: need to update my phpbb2...thinking of beta 4 :)

Actually we can do whatever we want... Its free and open source and there are no technical stipulations on that. There is no "legality" to using it... Yes, you're quite right - everyone is perfectly free to use it right now, just as it is. The caveats are that it still has quite a few known bugs, a...

Re: RC1 safe to use?

It is not safe to use in production (possible != safe). I am tempted to say that life itself is not safe . (Sorry, I am caring for a very close and dear family member who is dying of cancer so I am not in a very cheerful mood :( ). It's good that so many people want to run v3, but before you do you...

Re: Bug is less,

So, for every change a developer does, a Beta can't be released, hence the use of CVS. ... the point being that CVS gives developers like me a chance to know exactly that a change yesterday in a file affected in what way, and in case of Beta, I would have to wait till their would have been a number...

Re: Bug is less,

I fail to see why it is obvious a CVS version has received no testing, I was under the impression you could run code at CVS checkin, surely this code can check for things like parse error and run unit tests? Don't Mozilla have a system that tests the CVS tree and flags it if anything fails? I didn'...

Re: Why does this board use phpbb3?

I don't know why this thread seemed to turn into a retarded argument about using phpBB from snapshot to snapshot. But I plan to do it. Because I know I can... don't tell me otherwise. To quote Nicholas Wirth "If you want to venture into difficult waters it's a good idea to know how to swim." If you...

Re: Why does this board use phpbb3?

Say you have CVS from one day (after RC1 is released), then 5 days later they change the schema. Then they release RC2... the converter script from RC1 to RC2 will work on the CVS. Not necessarily. Say that 5 days after RC1 the schema is changed and then on day 6 you get a CVS snapshot. Then on day...

Re: Why does this board use phpbb3?

Well obviously :P Does that mean it is reasonable safe to use B2 in a live enviroment as long as we stay up to date with the latest bug reports etc? Besides the fact that this board isn't being run on the older Beta-2 milestone (in fact it's probably pretty close to the CVS and what will eventually...
