Since this seems like somthing that is there but we're all missing, or could be added, or have a mod written to cover in the future some time, this is what I would do for the time being. But wouldn't that little time taken during registering be a sort of assurance that there's not as much spam on that board as there is on other boards ?

Again, it seems silly to even consider registering in the first place if you're that easily detered.

Seems pretty silly to even consider registering for a site if an Audio captcha can deter you from registering that easily.

I don't know about anyone else, but, unless the site has some very useful information I want to get to, I wouldn't register at a site that has an audio only captcha.
