Re: The Quake 4 syndrome.

Threads like this do not encourage the developers to do anything more than they are now. I'm guessing that unknowledgable people telling them (the developers) how things should be down can get very old at times. ;) zarathoustra: Just curious: what inspired your username? Was it Nietzsche's book? ju...

Re: The Quake 4 syndrome.

that's great but that was long. and my remarks are still sensical, they concern development mode, not this release only.

The Quake 4 syndrome.

I think phpbb is victim of the "quake 4" symdrom, also known as the "one day" syndrome or "when it's ready" syndrome. They say they provide no deadline to avoid deception because it's hard to fullfil both a dealine requirement and a feature list requirement but, in the end time passes and nothing co...

Re: On the future of BBCODE

hmmm... and what do you propose to "patch" users habits, as they are using since the earlier times, when bbCode was introduce in uBB ? :). Don't you think also this is a quite ridiculous thing willing to stick always on latest "norms" on this kind of things a user really don't care (it brings him n...

Re: On the future of BBCODE

Unless I read the post incorrectly he was suggesting that a) bbcode more closely follow standard W3C recommendations for HTML/XHTML, i.e. use [em] not , use [strong] not , etc. and b) that bbcode be stylable. Obviously b) already exists. We will not be changing the system to enable a). yes, bbcode ...

On the future of BBCODE

Wouldn't it be better to have semantic BBCODE. the idea is the same that for XHTML, users would have a language for structuring their message and not for styling their message. The idea is that, users would have tags like, [em], [author], or whatever is semantic instead of [b], [u] or [i], then the ...

Re: Thoughts on XSL/XSLT

phpbb could output XML for structuring forum's content. it would be good to have an XML standard like a BBML that forums could use instead of XHTML. In a first time, phpbb could use an xsl file to transform it into XHTML either on server side with PHP or client side using the XSL support in browser ...
