Re: Daylight Saving Time (DST) within one country

Dude, if you don't think a forum might be important... what's the sense of taking part in this discussion?

Yeah whatever... it's not important if you're counting down to the new year at 23:00h, 0:00h or 1:00h, right?
Both options are just an hour difference, right?

If you cannot come op with better replies, then shut up. :|

Re: Daylight Saving Time (DST) within one country

I feel this may be the crux of our difference of opinion. I live in the UK, we work on GMT for half of the year and we have a daylight savings time called British Summer Time. BST is a different timezone to GMT, it's GMT+1. Which is a different timezone to the Central European Time which is also GM...

Re: Daylight Saving Time (DST) within one country

The fact that it's daylight savings does have relevance. If I live in an area that observes DST, and it's currently the summer now, for all posts made in the winter, the time will be show to have been posted 1 hour off from the time they were actually posted. This is because my current GMT-Offset i...

Re: Daylight Saving Time (DST) within one country

So, if you post a message at 13:37 STZ sometime in August saying "Subject: Hey I'm posting at a leet time dudes!". If you then dutifully changed your local time setting in your profile back to FTZ in September. When you next look at that post, it will be odd because it will appear to have been post...

Re: Daylight Saving Time (DST) within one country

Any intelligent user can see that no matter what time of the year it is, 10:00am GMT is always 10:00am GMT. Just because you've changed to using a different timezone for this particular month the time in GMT is still the same. Any Dutch user doesn't give a damn about GMT, because GMT does not take ...

Re: Daylight Saving Time (DST) within one country

If you really do feel it is necessary for times to be 100% accurate, it probably wouldn't be too difficult to create a mod, although I'm not sure how many people besides yourself would actually feel the need to install such a mod. Oh well, as said, I'll do the best I can to write such a thing. If I...

Re: Daylight Saving Time (DST) within one country

But it does bother me that this discussion is being used to paint a negative picture of phpBB and its community, when that negative picture is not necessarily accurate. You're quite right and I'm sorry, because that hasn't been my intention at all. I'll try to make this work for 2.2 as soon as poss...

Re: Daylight Saving Time (DST) within one country

I think the point that you are not getting is that it is actually a minority that would like it your way. The rest of us are content to have it the way it is. Again it may not be the best but it works. How do you know that I'm part of a minority? Because only conservative users give a reaction in t...

Re: Daylight Saving Time (DST) within one country

UTC actually does store if DST is in effect... know how? As I said, ofcourse I will be able to write a MOD for this, but that's not a solution for the shortcoming of phpBB itself, it would be just a workaround for me as an individual user. But in all cases, it adds additional PHP processing time. Y...
