Re: Datetimes in phpBB

Unix timestamps aren't limited, they are just made internally in MySQL to be more space-efficent. As of now (in a time where there is very little need for dates past year 2039), timestamps are stored as INT's, requiring 4 bytes of space each. The DATETIME column in MySQL requires 8 bytes. For those ...

Yea. Those hashes are kind of ironic, because you'd think with
6a429b0c9f304ac8aa6c0863d0eb6350, the 6350 would come before the 6a429. :|

Re: Daylight Saving Time (DST) within one country

Granted the automatic clock setting wasn't the main reason why some of us thought changes were necessary, but I guess we are used to everything being automatic on computers. Maybe that's good. Maybe that's bad, but personally, when was the last time you set your computer clock back or foward for DST...

Probably wasn't a good idea to post your password hash either (although you probably can't edit it any more) :?

Re: max_execution_time

I'm 99.23% sure the max_execution_time doesn't take into account the time spent in in queries (and a few other things IIRC). You can have a php configuration with a max 30 second execution time, and have a php page that does a 2-hour-long query, and then echo 'done'. It would work fine without any c...

Re: Daylight Saving Time (DST) within one country

Under most implmentations of phpBB, the hour of a post 6 months ago is somewhat trivial. There will of course be some posts for which this is not the case. For people who aren't too particular about the times of these posts (or for people in non-DST areas), they are not put to a disadvantage. People...

Re: Daylight Saving Time (DST) within one country

Applying a DST change to all times is a sloppy workaround because that is not how times work in real life. Exqueeze me? Do you care to phrase that with a little more respect for the sheer amount of time we've put into this please? And people wonder why I get irritated, "sloppy implementation" is ju...

Re: Daylight Saving Time (DST) within one country

The timezone that you are viewing the boards in is displayed at the top/bottom of the page, if you display a different timezone and DON'T show all times as being different, then you're doing something 'broken'. DST is just another timezone in all of the cases I have seen where a country has one. Th...

Re: Daylight Saving Time (DST) within one country

Sure there is, the whole phpBB philosphy is KISS, if a feature has limited purpose then it stays as a MOD. As far as processing time goes think about those boards with hundreds of people on at time, with millions of posts. I agree, and that's a great philosophy, which has kept phpBB bloat-free. How...
