Playing with phpBB code

Has anybody else started to play with the phpBB code? I feel the code quite dynamic and good. But there was one thing that confused me ... the template system, how does it really work? I know there are some type of caching and such. It feels quite tricky.

Re: phpBB team of experts, why ppl mod phpBB more than other

i like phpbbs simplicity Einstein said "As simple as possible, but no simpler". Me too  In my opinion phpBB should have a more open atitude to the MODs. For the moment there exist a "race" between MODs and vanilla phpBB. I think vanilla phpBB should add features (from good MODs) more rapidly. ...

ACP, MCP and UCP

I like the look on MCP and UCP ... but I don't understand why the layout should be completly different for the ACP. Is there reason why ACP is different?

Re: phpBB Portal and phpBB forum

A very cool CMS, IMO, is Drupal . But while that system excels in content management it lacks, IMO, in its user comment features an area phpbb excels in....and that could be said for many applications including Blogs. I think it would be cool if phpbb's portal could wrap phpbb into a sort of Slashd...

Re: phpBB Portal and phpBB forum

And people come to phpBB.com to get the forum software, not to get a portal. Most will want the forum over the portal system...for now. On the other side phpBB can decide in which direction they want to go ... be a portal or be forum. The slogan "creating communities" is in my opinion much more the...

Re: phpBB Portal and phpBB forum

Sounds a bit confusing to me. A portal is much bigger concept then a forum. Why not build it the correct way from the beginning? phpBB forum could be distributed with a light portal core. I think it will be a lot of work to change the dependencies later on.

phpBB Portal and phpBB forum

Will the phpBB Portal and phpBB forum be released together? Or will phpBB Portal have complete different timeschedule?

How will the Portal and the forum work together? Will the forum be a module for the portal?

How about all the authentication logic, will it belong to the portal or to the forum?
